Why I’m Voting No
Let’s take a look at the information, and misinformation, surrounding the upcoming Women’s Place in the Home Referendum here in Ireland, set to take place on International Women’s Day, 8th March 2024. There are two referendums that we are being asked to vote on, and today I focus on the so called “women in the home” part, which is Article 41.2 in Bunreacht na hÉireann, our Irish Constitution.
Is it sexist? Is it outdated? Or are people seeing things which aren’t really there? Should we keep Mná in the Law? Roderic O’Gorman wants to see this pushed through, as do the rest of the coalition government: it would be a nice “feel good” boost to their reputation in their eyes, but what exactly are we being asked to vote on, and why?
