‘I feel called to do it’: Gráinne Seoige on her Dáil run
It was a story that landed big and far beyond the political bubble: Gráinne Seoige, one of the biggest stars on Irish television for more than 20 years, was being lined up by Fianna Fáil to run as a Dáil candidate in Galway West.
Hours before the selection convention last month, it was confirmed by the party that three of the nominees vying for two spots on the ticket had pulled out, leaving just Seoige and city councillor John Connolly standing. She has been campaigning hard on the doorsteps ever since.
Over coffee at the Hardiman Hotel on Galway’s Eyre Square last week, in her first newspaper interview since her selection, Seoige (50) revealed why she opted for a new career in politics and what she hopes to achieve if elected.
