Man due in court over alleged assault on Roderic O’Gorman
A man is due to appear in court this morning after an alleged assault on Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman.
Pat Kenny is joined by Fionnan Sheehan (Ireland Editor for the Irish Independent) to discuss the incident.
It happened while Minister O’Gorman was out canvassing in the Blanchardstown area of west Dublin on Saturday.
Yesterday, Gardaí said they had arrested a man in his 30s “following the alleged assault of an elected representative canvassing in his local community”.
In a post online, Tánaiste Micheál Martin said the incident was “deeply concerning”.
“Ireland prides itself on its engagement between the people and its enacted representatives,” he wrote.
“There should be no violence, or fear of violence, when engaging in the democratic process.”
The man is due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court this morning at 10:30am.
