Dr Gabriel Scally to discuss his final report into the Cervical Check scandal.
Claire Brock is joined by Dr Gabriel Scally to discuss his final report into the Cervical Check scandal.
Dr Scally tells Claire that by law there is a prohibition to complaining about clinical care.
He tells Claire this “has to be changed.”
Dr Scally believes that High Court proceedings into clinical care could be stopped if the HSE told patients the absolute truth; if there are mistakes made, make a genuine apology and make sure you explain what will be done to make sure no more mistakes will be made.
Claire points out that there are members of the 221+ group who believe they have been treated like “lepers” due to speaking out. She asks how that will change with this report.
Dr Scally believes that there will be a change, but he is not confident it will be a quick change.
Dr Gabriel Scally urges Health Minister Stephen Donnelly to put a proper system in place where patients can raise concerns and can expect the health service to tell them the truth.
