Ballymun Flats Open in 1968
The residents of the new Ballymun housing estate in Dublin worked together to build a strong community despite lingering prejudice against public housing. Efforts such as the Credit Union and Tenants Association helped foster self-help initiatives, while groups formed to address local issues and encourage civic responsibility. Although construction was still ongoing, with the final tower yet to be completed, plans were in place for additional amenities like a swimming pool, cinema, and bowling alley.
