Bluestack Mountains | Donegal | Croaghbarnes Bivy

A return to wild camping after a break of few months and rediscovering the pure magic of spending time overnight in the mountains. The trip was to the Bluestack Mountains in Donegal, starting at Lough Eske to the south and walking in past Edergole Bridge, following the Corabber River to Lough Belshade. A climb to a wild camp spot close to the summit of Croaghbarnes (499m) and beside one of the loughs on the summit for a good source of water. A fantastic first day weather wise, including a breeze to keep the midges at bay, and a clear night with a cloud full of stars easily seen when lying open in the bivy. The morning brought a stronger and cooler wind and thick mist which stayed with height for the day as I climbed Croaghbane (641m), Ardnageer (642m), Ardnageer SW Top (626m) and Croaghgorm East Top (594m). New ground was followed on the descent along mountain streams and past Lough Gulladuff.
