Carlow shop which has been open for 100 years set to close its doors

For 86-year-old Arnold Mahon, life outside his drapery shop in Tullow, Co Carlow has changed drastically over the past 60 years.

Irish towns and villages that were once thriving with an abundance of locally-owned and family-run shops, have forgotten their roots and loyalties, turning their attentions instead to multinational retail chains.

But P.J. Duffy’s has bucked the trend, surviving the decline in small, locally-owned businesses and instead solidifying itself as an institution in Tullow town with a reputation for quality products that spans across the country.
