Forgotten Ireland – The Brothers – Paddy & Nicholas Butler

Nicholas and Paddy Butler hailed from the foot of the Comeragh Mountains, in the Townsland of Coolnahorna (Cúil na hEorna) in the parish of Mothel, Co.Waterford, not far from the village of Counshinghaun.

The brothers lived and worked together in quiet, frugal contentment for many years. However, one of them was harbouring a secret, a secret that was to rock the foundations of their friendship, their homestead and, ultimately, their way of life.

Filming commenced in 1992 by filmmaker Richard Fitzgerald and continued on and off until 2001. Paddy died suddenly in 1997. Nicholas outlived his older brother by five years, shuffling off this mortal coil in 2002.

This programme, ‘Townlands – The Brothers’ was first broadcast on RTE1 in 2006.

God bless them both and Rest In Peace.
