Galway Pub to Defy Smoking Ban, Ireland 2004
A Galway publican allows customers to smoke in his bar in a challenge to the government smoking ban .
Customers in Fibber Magee’s bar on Eyre Square were puffing away freely this evening, even though the smoking ban was introduced three months ago.
Manager and co-owner Ciaran Levanzin says the decision to allow patrons to smoke indoors was made following a serious drop in trade in the pub sector.

Publicans who breach the smoking ban can be fined €3,000. Ciaran Levanzin says he is aware that he is breaking the law, but feels that he must take a stand on the issue,
Some Polish tourists on holidays in Galway were pleased to find a hostelry where they could smoke indoors.
