Ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine
Claire Brock is joined by Professor Donnacha Ó Beacháin, Mary Butler TD and Columnist David Quinn to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
Claire states that Ukrainians fleeing their country are having problems in the Mariupol region. Donnacha Ó Beacháin points to a speech President Zelenskyy did where he references an eight-year-old girl who had died of dehydration after her mother had passed away.
Officially Russia is offering corridors of safe passage. However, as Donnacha claims, the water and electricity have been cut off in an “old fashioned siege” of starving the Ukrainian citizens. He states that Russia is using war crimes “as a strategy.”
Ireland is due to take in 80,000 – 100,000 refugees into the country. Claire asks Mary Butler TD how prepared we are for this.
