Locals fear for welfare of asylum-seekers living in isolated former pub
About 20 international protection applicants are staying at a former pub in Co Meath, but locals fear the new arrivals are living an isolated existence.
The operator of the site at Collegelands Forge, near Summerhill is being paid about €65,000 per month by the Department of Integration to house them for a year– so around €750,000.
Complaints made to gardaí and the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) have centred on concerns for the asylum-seekers.
A garda complaint in July related to alleged violence and drug dealing at the site. A woman who was an alleged victim at the centre of this complaint, and her partner, were later moved to new accommodation.
