Mayo CC votes to cease co-operation with Department of Integration over refugee housing strategy
Mayo County Council has unanimously passed a motion calling on the local authority’s staff to stop co-operating with the Department of Integration over the housing of asylum seekers. Ellen Butler and Mary McCarthy discuss with Kieran Cuddihy on The Hard Shoulder.
In a non-binding vote, the Mayo County Council voted ‘that all co-operation ceases immediately, between the staff of Mayo County Council and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth of Ireland, until such time as an agreed strategy is put in place to properly co-ordinate the provision of additional services for the communities hosting refugees and international protection applicants. Services to include medical, policing, accommodation, housing, education, transport training etc and that delivery dates are set down for the roll out of these services.’
