Molly Malone’s stewards will face tricky task keeping statue safe from groping tourists
A busker was loudly singing the chorus of Creep by Radiohead as a group of five teenagers walked past the statue of Molly Malone this week, each slapping one of her breasts as they passed.
The irony seemed to have been lost on them – and the dozens of people who would follow over the next hour.
In just 60 minutes, 71 people touched and groped the chest of the bronze statue in Dublin’s Suffolk Street, which has become tarnished as a result of a ‘lucky’ ritual for tourists that is thought to have started in the early 2010s.
