Concerned about the Re-turn recycling scheme
Owner of Premier International Beers concerned about the Re-turn recycling scheme destroying his business.
Some products are expected to vanish off shop and off-licence shelves, with smaller international companies signalling an unwillingness to pay for Re-turn deposit recycling labels.
There is also concern smaller corner shop owners who can’t afford to buy Re-turn recycling machines – which cost thousands of euro to buy and install – will also lose out to supermarkets.
Customers are expected to vote with their feet to shop where machines are based, potentially leaving less well-off corner shops out in the cold.
Industry sources say it could cost smaller Irish companies thousands of euro a year to add the Re-turn labels to plastic bottles and cans by June 1, if international producers refuse to foot the bill.
