Pedagogies and Politics in Irish Education – Was the DCU Course the Canary in the Coalmine?

As a follow-on to looking at the origins and underpinnings of the 2023 Junior Cycle SPHE Curriculum, we take a look at the concept of pedagogy, which can have a dramatic influence on the classroom experience and yet be invisible when you look at the curriculum. We specifically look at Critical Pedagogy and Queer Pedagogy, both of which were referenced on the DCU SPHE Course and we could see the influences in that course in the classroom exercises. We also look at the Critical Turn in education and broader concerns for Irish Education as well as a call to action.
