The litany of state failures to protect children in state care was highlighted by Mattie McGrath, Peadar Tóibín, Paul Murphy TD, Holly Cairns TD and Danny Healy-Rae during the debate on child protection initiated by the government to embarrass Mary Lou McDonald – Sinn Féin. Speaking on RTÉ’s 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑊𝑒𝑒𝑘 𝑖𝑛 𝑃𝑜𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑠, Leader of the Rural Independent Group said that there will be tribunals of inquiry in years to come into the current failure by the state and Tusla to protect vulnerable children in state care.
