‘Won’t be missed’: Leo Varadkar lashed for pushing ‘progressive politics’ in Ireland
GB News host Darren Grimes has slammed outgoing Irish prime minister Leo Varadkar for trying to steer the country into the “fast lane of progressive politics”.
Mr Varadkar announced he was stepping down as prime minister at a snap media conference on Wednesday in Dublin.
He said the reasons for his decision were both “personal and political” with the country just a year out from its next election.
Mr Grimes said the prime minister “will not be missed” in Britain and he doubts he will be remembered in Ireland.
“Don’t let this emotionally charged swan song fool you. He is a real piece of work, he is the master of the last-minute twist,” he told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
“Under his reign we saw referendums come crashing down like this poorly staged theatre production stripping woman and mother from the constitution as if words could ever dimmish the sense of what they actually represent.
“He tried to steer Ireland into the fast lane of progressive politics but it actually turns out his vehicle was missing a few gears.”
